Watch out for roofers, they are “nailing” AC lines!

Over the last several months here in McKinney, Allen, Frisco, and Plano many homeowners are getting their roofs replaced because of the recent hail storms. We are getting service calls at an alarming rate (the same day the roofer leaves), stating their AC stopped working. When we receive those calls, its pretty much a guarantee the roofers hit refrigerant lines with a nail gun and all of your Freon (refrigerant) is gone! Almost every roofer has a clause that says they are not responsible for nails puncturing refrigerant and gas lines, you likely signed it. While sometimes accidents happen, most of the time it is easily prevented. Insist that the roofing installer goes into your attic and takes a look. 90% of the time they will not do this unless you ask them!! I recently had the roof replaced at my home and required it. Hire a roofing contractor who has been in business for a few years, check them out of Google. If they do make a mistake, they will likely help remedy the situation. Roofing is not regulated by the State of Texas like Air Conditioning contractors. Anyone can decide to start a roofing business tomorrow, no insurance required. Be careful!
