Warning Signs Your Heat Pump Needs a Repair Tech

A heat pump handles both heating and cooling for your McKinney home, so small problems show up fast. Watch for these warning signs:

Weak or no airflow
Cool air in heat mode
Grinding or rattling noises
Ice that won’t clear
Short, frequent cycling

Catching these early often keeps a minor fix from turning into a major one. If you notice any of them, call the office and we’ll take a look.

Heat Pump Breakdowns We Fix Most Often

Many calls for heat pump repair in McKinney, TX, start at the outdoor unit. Long, hot North Texas summers keep a heat pump running for months, which wears down capacitors, contactors, and fan motors faster than in milder climates.

Refrigerant leaks are another common problem. A leak lowers the system’s ability to move heat, so rooms stay warm in summer and chilly in winter, and the coil can ice over. Our team locates the leak, repairs it, and restores the correct charge.

We also fix reversing valves that leave the system stuck in heating or cooling, defrost controls that let ice build up on the outdoor coil, and faulty controls that send the wrong signals. When the control is the problem, our thermostat repair and installation service gets it working again.

Some airflow problems only look like a heat pump failure. When a clogged filter or a leaking duct is the real cause, we tell you so and recommend ductwork repair instead of replacing parts you don’t need.

Electrical faults round out the list. Worn wiring, a breaker that keeps tripping, or a failed control board can shut the whole system down, so our technicians test each component until the right part is found.

24-Hour Emergency Heat Pump Repair

Heat pumps don’t wait for business hours to fail. A breakdown during a winter cold snap or a summer heat wave can put young kids, older family members, and pets at risk, so we offer 24-hour emergency service for McKinney homeowners.

When you call after hours, our team talks through what’s happening and gets a technician headed your way. Learn more about our emergency HVAC repair service and how we handle urgent calls.

While you wait, turn the system off at the thermostat if it’s grinding or blowing the wrong temperature, and check whether the breaker has tripped. Those quick steps can prevent further damage until our technician arrives.

Upfront Heat Pump Repair Pricing

The cost of heat pump repair in McKinney, TX, depends on what failed, the parts involved, and the age and size of your system. A capacitor swap and a refrigerant leak repair are very different jobs, so we diagnose first and price second.

Harris Air gives you upfront pricing with no hidden fees before any work starts. If replacement makes more sense than another repair, we explain both options and let you decide. Ask about our financing options if you need help with a larger repair.

Routine maintenance is the most reliable way to keep repair costs down over time. A yearly tune-up catches worn parts before they fail, and our maintenance plans make it easy to stay on schedule.
